A Word to the Weary – William S Plumer / Full Christian Audio Book

A Word to the Weary – William S Plumer / Full Christian Audio Book

Sin and sorrow are twin sisters. They were born the same day. They have grown up together. It is as idle to say that there is no misery as to assert that there is no wickedness in the world. Some men seem to be uniformly prosperous. They appear to have but few trials. They have more than heart can wish. They are receiving their good things in this life. They are the abhorred of the Lord. Their eternity will be rueful. Yet even they have their seasons of weariness. And the mass of men have many and palpable sorrows. This is always true of the godly in this life: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous.” “Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.” The tears of God’s people often flow, day and night. Waters of a full cup are wrung out to them. Oh, the weariness of good men! It has many causes. – Summary by William S. Plumer

00:00 1. A Word in Season to him who is Weary

37:59 2. A Word of Instruction

51:56 3. A Word of Encouragement

1:00:00 4. A Word of Caution

1:06:45 5. The Lord shall reign forever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the Lord.

William Plumer (June 25, 1759 — December 22, 1850) was an American lawyer and Baptist lay preacher from Epping, New Hampshire. Born in 1759 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, he represented New Hampshire as a Federalist in the United States Senate from June 17, 1802 to March 4, 1807. Plumer later became a Democratic-Republican and served as a Governor of New Hampshire, 1812–1813 and 1816–1819.

In the 1820 presidential election, he cast the only dissenting vote in the Electoral College against incumbent President James Monroe, voting instead for John Quincy Adams. While some accounts say that this was to ensure that George Washington remained the only American president unanimously chosen by the Electoral College, others assert that he was instead calling attention to his friend Adams as a potential future presidential candidate, or protesting against the “wasteful extravagance” of the Monroe Administration. Plumer also eschewed voting for Daniel D. Tompkins for Vice President as “grossly intemperate” and having “not that weight of character which his office requires,” and also “because he grossly neglected his duty” in his “only” official role as president of the Senate by being “absent nearly three-fourths of the time.” Plumer instead voted for Richard Rush.

In 1803, Plumer was one of several New England Federalists who proposed secession from the United States due to lack of support for Federalists, rising influence of Jeffersonian Democrats and the diminished influence of the North due to the Louisiana Purchase.

Plumer was a founder and the first president of the New Hampshire Historical Society. He died in 1850, aged 91, at Epping, New Hampshire.

The GOSPEL of JESUS CHRIST: The ONLY HOPE for the WORLD – Pastor Patrick Hines Reformed Christian Podcast

1 You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed [as] crucified? 2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain–if indeed it was in vain? 5 So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? 6 Just as Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. 7 Therefore, recognize that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. (Galatians 3:1 – 7)

We also believe that Christian Worship is to be regulated and defined by God’s Word, the Bible.

Our worship services are designed to please and honor the Triune God of the Bible. We place Scripture reading and the preaching of the word of God at the center of worship along with Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These are God’s gifts to His church and ought to always be at the center of Christian worship. We are a congregation that loves to sing God’s praises, recite His Word back to Him, and actively engage in hearing and learning from God’s Word.

We embrace and promote a comprehensive Christian world and life view.

There is no area of life which is not under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is to God and His law which all people, including governments and civil rulers, will answer. The Word of God embraces and informs the way we view marriage, the family, children, education, politics, worship, law, government, war, the church, missions, evangelism, and worship. In the world today there is a battle of opposing worldviews. There are basically only two positions: God’s Word and man’s ideas. We stand positively for Biblical truth and negatively against man’s ideas which are opposed to Biblical truth.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only hope for mankind.

Because all men fall short of obeying God’s law, all men everywhere are in need of divine grace and salvation from God. This salvation is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ who died for sinners, was buried, rose again, and is alive today seated at God the Father’s right hand.

We Worship God Together as Families.

We offer nursery during morning worship service for newborns and infants but encourage people to keep as many of their children as they can with them for morning worship. The audio of the service is in the nursery via speakers. There is also a crying room with a video screen and audio of the sermon. We offer Sunday school classes for all ages but worship together as families. We do not offer “children’s” church. Children need to be in morning worship as soon as possible so they can learn how to participate as active worshipers of God which includes the singing of His praises and listening actively to sermons.

10 “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me [c]void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10 – 11)

God Alone is Our Rock and Our Salvation – Pastor Patrick Hines Reformed Christian Podcast

1Truly my soul silently waits for God;
From Him comes my salvation.
2 He only is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense;
I shall not be greatly moved. (Psalm 62:1-2)

O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory. (Psalm 63:1-2)

A Lively Description of our Justification – William Tyndale

William Tyndale (1494–1536) was an English scholar who became a leading figure in Protestant reform in the years leading up to his execution. He is well known for his translation of the Bible into English. He was influenced by the work of Desiderius Erasmus, who made the Greek New Testament available in Europe, and by Martin Luther. A number of partial translations had been made from the seventh century onward, but the spread of Wycliffe’s Bible resulted in a death sentence for any unlicensed possession of Scripture in English—even though translations had been accomplished and made available in all other major European languages.

Tyndale’s translation was the first English Bible to draw directly from Hebrew and Greek texts, the first English one to take advantage of the printing press, and first of the new English Bibles of the Reformation. It was taken to be a direct challenge to the hegemony of both the Roman Catholic Church and the laws of England maintaining the church’s position. In 1530, Tyndale also wrote The Practyse of Prelates, opposing Henry VIII’s annulment from Catherine of Aragon on the grounds that it contravened Scripture.

Reuchlin’s Hebrew grammar was published in 1506. Tyndale worked in an age in which Greek was available to the European scholarly community for the first time in centuries. Erasmus compiled and edited Greek Scriptures from the Textus Receptus following the Fall of Constantinople in 1453. Constantinople’s fall helped to fuel the Renaissance and led to the dispersion of Greek-speaking intellectuals and texts into a Europe which previously had no access to them. A copy of The Obedience of a Christian Man fell into the hands of Henry VIII, providing the king with the rationale to break the Church in England from the Roman Catholic Church in 1534.

In 1535, Tyndale was arrested and jailed in the castle of Vilvoorde (Filford) outside Brussels for over a year. In 1536, he was convicted of heresy and executed by strangulation, after which his body was burnt at the stake. His dying prayer was that the King of England’s eyes would be opened; this seemed to find its fulfilment just two years later with Henry’s authorisation of the Great Bible for the Church of England, which was largely Tyndale’s own work. Hence, the Tyndale Bible, as it was known, continued to play a key role in spreading Reformation ideas across the English-speaking world and, eventually, to the British Empire.

In 1611, the 54 scholars who produced the King James Bible drew significantly from Tyndale, as well as from translations that descended from his. One estimate suggests that the New Testament in the King James Version is 83% Tyndale’s and the Old Testament 76%. His translation of the Bible was the first to be printed in English, and became a model for subsequent English translations; in 2002, Tyndale was placed at number 26 in the BBC’s poll of the 100 Greatest Britons.

Spurgeon’s Sorrows / Realistic Hope for those Struggling with Depression – Pastor Patrick Hines

Charles Haddon (C.H.) Spurgeon (June 19, 1834 January 31, 1892) was a British Reformed Baptist preacher who remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations, among whom he is still known as the “Prince of Preachers.” In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people, often up to 10 times a week at different places. His sermons have been translated into many languages. Spurgeon was the pastor of the New Park Street Chapel in London for 38 years. In 1857, he started a charity organization called Spurgeon’s which now works globally. He also founded Spurgeon’s College, which was named after him after his death.

Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works including sermons, an autobiography, a commentary, books on prayer, a devotional, a magazine, and more. Many sermons were transcribed as he spoke and were translated into many languages during his lifetime. Arguably, no other author, Christian or otherwise, has more material in print than C.H. Spurgeon.

Cast Thy Burden Upon The Lord (Choir) – Christian Hymn / Lyrics #shorts

Christian Hymns playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBD1B04EAC0152F4B

Cast thy burden upon the Lord,
And He shall sustain thee.
He never will suffer the righteous to fall;
He is at thy right hand.
Thy mercy, Lord, is great
and far above the heav’ns;
Let none be made ashamed
that wait upon Thee.

Composer: Felix Mendelssohn

* Birth: February 3, 1809, Hamburg, Germany
* Death: November 4, 1847, Leipzig, Germany

Felix Mendelssohn (Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn) was born 1809, the grandson of the Jewish philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. His father converted to Christianity, baptized his children and changed their surname to Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Felix resisted the change and kept Mendelssohn as his surname.

Mendelssohn showed his musical ability beginning at a young age. Octet for Strings in E flat major, Op. 20, composed when he was 16, was significant not only because of his age, but because it is one of the first works of its kind. He composed the overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the age of 17. In 1829 he conducted the St. Matthew Passion, which stimulated a revival of interest in the music of J. S. Bach.

He was musical director at Dusseldorf from 1833 — 1835, conductor of the Gewandhuas concerts in Leipzig in 1835, and he helped found the Leipzig Conservatory, 1842 — 1843. In 1841 he was appointed director of the music section of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.

Mendelssohn wrote five symphonies. The most well-known are Scottish (1842), Italian (1833) and Reformation (1832). Other works frequently performed are his Violin Concerto in E Minor (1845), The Hebrides Overture or Fingal’s Cave (1832) and his two oratorios, St. Paul (1836) and Elijah (1846). Mendelssohn died at the early age of 38.
