Romans 10:20-21

20But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

21But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

The descendant of several generations of Independent ministers, he was born at Kelvedon, Essex, and became a Baptist in 1850. In the same year he preached his first sermon, and in 1852 he was appointed paster of the Baptist congregation at Waterbeach. In 1854 he went to Southwark, where his sermons drew such crowds that a new church, the Metropolitan Tabernacle in Newington Causeway, had to be built for him. Apart from his preaching activites he founded a pastors’ college, an orphanage, and a colportage association for the propagation of uplifting literature. Spurgeon was a strong Calvinist. He had a controversy in 1864 with the Evangelical party of the Church of England for remaining in a Church that taught Baptismal Regeneration, and also estranged considerable sections of his own community by rigid opposition to the more liberal methods of Biblical exegesis. These differences led to a rupture with the Baptist Union in 1887. He owed his fame as a preacher to his great oratorical gifts, humour, and shrewd common sense, which showed itself especially in his treatment of contemporary problems. Among his works are The Saint and his Saviour (1857), Commenting and Commentaries (1876) and numerous volumes of sermons (translated into many languages).

Unbelief is the most active thing on earth – Oswald Chambers

Unbelief is the most active thing on earth - Oswald Chambers

“Unbelief is the most active thing on earth; it is a fretful, worrying, questioning, annoying, self-centred spirit. To believe is to stop all this and let God work.”

Use Sin as it will use You – Richard Baxter

Use Sin as it will use You - Richard Baxter

“Use sin as it will use you; spare it not, for it will not spare you; it is your murderer, and the murderer of the world: use it, therefore, as a murderer should be used. Kill it before it kills you. You love not death; love not the cause of death.”

– Richard Baxter

It is Grace at the Beginning, and Grace at the End – Martyn Lloyd-Jones

It is Grace at the Beginning, and Grace at the End - Martyn Lloyd-Jones

“It is grace at the beginning, and grace at the end. So that when you and I come to lie upon our death beds, the one thing that should comfort and help and strengthen us there is the thing that helped us in the beginning. Not what we have been, not what we have done, but the Grace of God in Jesus Christ our Lord. The Christian life starts with grace, it must continue with grace, it ends with grace. Grace wondrous grace. By the grace of God I am what I am. Yet not I, but the Grace of God which was with me.”

I rejoice in being reproached for Christ’s sake – John Bunyan

I rejoice in being reproached for Christ's sake - John Bunyan

“Therefore, I bind these lies and slanderous accusations to my person as an ornament; it belongs to my Christian profession to be vilified, slandered, reproached and reviled, and since all this is nothing but that, as God and my conscience testify, I rejoice in being reproached for Christ’s sake.”

Thank you Lord for Creating Me – A Saint’s Prayer of Thanksgiving

Thank you Lord for Creating Me - A Saint's Prayer of Thanksgiving

Dear brethren,

I recently received the following message from a dear sister in our Lord, Genevieve, in response to the prayer request for my sister. I was so deeply moved and blessed in its reading that I asked Genevieve if I may share it with all of you here, and she has given me permission to do so. I trust that those who read these wonderful words will be greatly blessed…may it be so, to the glory of God.

Genevieve’s message:

I hope you don’t mind, but I wanted to share with you something I wrote when I was diagnosed with 2 different cancers 2 days apart from each other. If you feel lead to, please share this with your sister and let her know I am still praying for her.

I Was Created For………………

For You O Lord I was created. I was created to praise you, the very one who created the universe and everything that exists! Every time I see the sun, or smell the fragrant flowers I see the work of your hands. When I look at the ocean or the mountains I see your majesty and power, I stand in awe of your creations, knowing this is but a shadow of what is in heaven. I praise you for who You are. You are Majestic, sovereign and holy. You are the very essence and meaning of why these words were created, I am humbled and honored to be able to call you Father.

I was created to worship you. To worship you for the very life I have. For you have redeemed and purchased my life with your precious blood. You have restored me spiritually and physically. I truly am a new creation because of You. I will be forever grateful, and am yours to do whatever you will. I was created to have an intimate relationship with you, the one true living God, who has revealed great mysteries to me. To know you, and your will in my life as well as you know me. To become more and more like you, so others can see your love, grace and mercy that are waiting for them.

When I am in your presence I only want to praise you. To get so lost in you, time or the things of this world do no matter. This is the fulfillment of all joy and gratification. What joy that overflows in me, when my spirit soars higher into the holiest of holies. I bow down humbled and awed that you love me the way you do. When these revelations come upon me, it literally takes my breath away and again the only thing I can do is worship You.

I was created to worship, praise, and glorify you, have reverence, fear, obey, and serve you. Have a relationship with you, bring others to you, be faithful, love you and you alone, but most of all I was created to spend eternity in your presence. Oh, the joy and privilege that awaits me. I thank you Lord for creating me.

Murray was Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Murray became a noted missionary leader. His father was a Scottish Presbyterian serving the Dutch Reformed Church of South Africa, and his mother had connections with both French Huguenots and German Lutherans. This background to some extent explains his ecumenical spirit. He was educated at Aberdeen University, Scotland, and at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. After ordination in 1848 he served pastorates at Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town, and Wellington. He helped to found what are now the University College of the Orange Free State and the Stellenbosch Seminary He served as Moderator of the Cape Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church and was president of both the YMCA (1865) and the South Africa General Mission (1888-1917), now the Africa Evangelical Fellowship.

He was one of the chief promoters of the call to missions in South Africa. This led to the Dutch Reformed Church missions to blacks in the Transvaal and Malawi. Apart from his evangelistic tours in South Africa, he spoke at the Keswick and Northfield Conventions in 1895, making a great impression. upon his British and American audiences. For his contribution to world missions he was given an honorary doctorate by the universities of Aberdeen (1898) and Cape of Good Hope(1907).

Murray is best known today for his devotional writings, which place great emphasis on the need for a rich, personal devotional life. Many of his 240 publications explain in how he saw this devotion and its outworking in the life of the Christian. Several of his books have become devotional classics. Among these are Abide in Christ, Absolute Surrender, With Christ in the School of Prayer, The Spirit of Christ and Waiting on God.

Exodus 14:13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.

God Shapes the World by Prayer – E.M. Bounds

God Shapes the World by Prayer - E.M. Bounds

“God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. The lips that uttered them may be closed to death, the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God’s heart is set on them and prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; they outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world.”

He pours out Blessings – J. R. Miller: In Green Pastures

He pours out Blessings - J. R. Miller: In Green Pastures

“God does not dole out help by little grains. He pours out blessings until there is no more room to receive. He gives until our emptiness is altogether filled. He could give far more. The only thing that stands in the way of our being blessed to the full is the smallness of our faith.”
