Shepherd God’s Flock – Pastor Kenneth Stewart Sermon (Acts 20:16-38)

▶️Stornoway Reformed Presbyterian Church
https://stornowayrpcs.org/

What We Believe
As a church, we are committed to the Bible as our rule of faith and living. We are also committed to the historic Christian faith as it has been expressed in the ancient Creeds of Christendom and in the truths contained in the great Confessions of Faith which sprung up in Europe with the Reformation of the 16th century. Our main doctrinal standard is the historic Westminster Confession of Faith, drawn up by leading theologians from all parts of the British Isles, in the 1640’s.

This means that we are committed to believing in, amongst other things, the absolute sovereignty of God (Father, Son and Spirit), a created universe, our fall into sin, our consequent alienation from God and exposure to his condemnation and final judgment, the saving and complete work of Jesus Christ in dying for sinners, the necessity of faith in Christ in order to experience salvation, and the reality of both heaven and hell.

Because of the importance of its message, we believe the Bible is the most important book you could ever read and that the person at its centre – Jesus Christ, crucified 2000 years ago – is also the most important person you will ever encounter. After all, if the Bible is true, we will all encounter him one day.

Shepherd God’s Flock – Pastor Kenneth Stewart Sermon (Acts 20:16-38)

[Acts 20:16-38 NKJV] 16 For Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus, so that he would not have to spend time in Asia; for he was hurrying to be at Jerusalem, if possible, on the Day of Pentecost. 17 From Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called for the elders of the church. 18 And when they had come to him, he said to them: “You know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I always lived among you, 19 “serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials which happened to me by the plotting of the Jews; 20 “how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house, 21 “testifying to Jews, and also to Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 22 “And see, now I go bound in the spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the things that will happen to me there, 23 “except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me. 24 “But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. 25 “And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more. 26 “Therefore I testify to you this day that I [am] innocent of the blood of all [men]. 27 “For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. 28 “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29 “For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 “Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 “Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. 32 “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 “I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. 34 “Yes, you yourselves know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me. 35 “I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” 36 And when he had said these things, he knelt down and prayed with them all. 37 Then they all wept freely, and fell on Paul’s neck and kissed him, 38 sorrowing most of all for the words which he spoke, that they would see his face no more. And they accompanied him to the ship.

Few Saved: Old Paths – J. C. Ryle Sermon / Audio Book

Dear Brethren, I am now on X https://twitter.com/RichMoo50267219 If you are as well, please consider following me there.

  1. What it is to be saved.
  2. The mistakes which are common about the number of the saved.
  3. What the Bible says about the number of the saved.
  4. Some plain facts about the number of the saved.

“I take it for granted that every reader of this paper calls himself a Christian. You would not like to be reckoned a deist, or an infidel. You profess to believe the Bible to be true. The birth of Christ the
Saviour, the death of Christ the Saviour, the salvation provided by Christ the Saviour, all these are
facts which you have probably never doubted. But, after all, will Christianity like this profit you
anything at last? Will it do your soul any good when you die? In one word – Shall you be saved?”

J.C. Ryle – (1816-1900), first Anglican bishop of Liverpool
John Charles Ryle was born at Macclesfield and was educated at Eton and at Christ Church, Oxford. He was a fine athlete who rowed and played Cricket for Oxford, where he took a first class degree in Greats and was offered a college fellowship (teaching position) which he declined. The son of a wealthy banker, he was destined for a career in politics before answering a call to ordained ministry.

He was spiritually awakened in 1838 while hearing Ephesians 2 read in church. He was ordained by Bishop Sumner at Winchester in 1842. After holding a curacy at Exbury in Hampshire, he became rector of St Thomas’s, Winchester (1843), rector of Helmingham, Suffolk (1844), vicar of Stradbroke (1861), honorary canon of Norwich (1872), and dean of Salisbury (1880). In 1880, at age 64, he became the first bishop of Liverpool, at the recommendation of Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. He retired in 1900 at age 83 and died later the same year.

Ryle was a strong supporter of the evangelical school and a critic of Ritualism. Among his longer works are Christian Leaders of the Eighteenth Century (1869), Expository Thoughts on the Gospels (7 vols, 1856-69) and Principles for Churchmen (1884).

One Like the Son of Man Coming on the Clouds to the Ancient of Days – Pastor Patrick Hines #shorts

[Luke 17:22-25, 27-37 NASB20] 22 And He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see [it.] 23 “And they will say to you, ‘Look there,’ or, ‘Look here!’ Do not leave, and do not run after [them.] 24 “For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part of the sky, shines to the other part of the sky, so will the Son of Man be in His day. 25 “But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. … 27 [people] were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, [and] they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 “It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, [and] they were building; 29 but on the day that Lot left Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 “It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed. 31 “On that day, the one who will be on the housetop, with his goods in the house, must not go down to take them out; and likewise the one in the field must not turn back. 32 “Remember Lot’s wife. 33 “Whoever strives to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses [his life] will keep it. 34 “I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left. 35 “There will be two women grinding at the same [place;] one will be taken and the other will be left. 36 [“Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other will be left.”] 37 And responding, they said to Him, “Where, Lord?” And He said to them, “Where the body [is,] there also the vultures will be gathered.”

From the church website:

We subscribe to the Westminster Standards as our doctrinal statement. It consists of the following documents:

The Westminster Confession of Faith
The Westminster Larger Catechism
The Westminster Shorter Catechism

We also believe that Christian Worship is to be regulated and defined by God’s Word, the Bible.

Our worship services are designed to please and honor the Triune God of the Bible. We place Scripture reading and the preaching of the word of God at the center of worship along with Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. These are God’s gifts to His church and ought to always be at the center of Christian worship. We are a congregation that loves to sing God’s praises, recite His Word back to Him, and actively engage in hearing and learning from God’s Word.

We embrace and promote a comprehensive Christian world and life view.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only hope for mankind.

Because all men fall short of obeying God’s law, all men everywhere are in need of divine grace and salvation from God. This salvation is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ who died for sinners, was buried, rose again, and is alive today seated at God the Father’s right hand.

We Worship God Together as Families.

We offer nursery during the morning worship service for newborns and infants but encourage people to keep as many of their children as they can with them for morning worship. The audio of the service is in the nursery via speakers. There is also a crying room with a video screen and audio of the sermon. We offer Sunday school classes for all ages, but worship together as families. We do not offer “children’s” church.

All who profess faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and are members of an evangelical church are cordially invited to participate with us in the Lord’s Supper.

Arthur Walkington Pink (1886-1952) evangelist and Biblical scholar

Pink was born in Nottingham, England on April 1, 1886 and became a Christian in his early 20’s. Though born to Christian parents, prior to conversion he migrated into a Theosophical society (an occult gnostic group popular in England during that time), and quickly rose in prominence within their ranks. His conversion came from his father’s patient admonitions from Scripture. It was the verse, Proverbs 14:12, ‘there is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death,’ which particularly struck his heart and compelled him to renounce Theosophy and follow Jesus.

Desiring to grow in knowledge of the Bible, Pink immigrated to the United States to study at Moody Bible Institute. In 1916 he married Vera E. Russell, who was from Kentucky. However, he left after just two months for Colorado, then California, then Britain. From 1925 to 1928 he served in Australia, including as pastor of two congregations from 1926 to 1928, when he returned to England, and to the United States the following year. He eventually pastored churches Colorado, California, Kentucky and South Carolina.

In 1922 he started a monthly magazine entitled Studies in Scriptures which circulated among English-speaking Christians worldwide, though only to a relatively small circulation list of around 1,000.

In 1934 Pink returned to England, and within a few years turned his Christian service to writing books and pamphlets. Pink died in Stornoway, Scotland on July 15, 1952. The cause of death was anemia.

After Pink’s death, his works were republished by the Banner of Truth Trust and reached a much wider audience as a result. Biographer Iain Murray observes of Pink, “the widespread circulation of his writings after his death made him one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century.” His writing sparked a revival of expository preaching and focused readers’ hearts on biblical living.

LIVE AT 3PM, EST, JULY 17 / 2025 Standing on the Promises of God – Pastor Patrick Hines Reformed Christian Podcast

LIVE AT 3PM, EST, JULY 17 / 2025 Standing on the Promises of God – Pastor Patrick Hines Reformed Christian Podcast

A look at some of the greatest promises of forgiveness, salvation, and God’s love in all of Scripture.

Christ’s All-Sufficient Sacrifice on the Cross

Hebrews 10:10-14
“By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
And every priest stands ministering daily… But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God… For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”

Key truth: Christ’s sacrifice is once for all, perfecting and sanctifying believers completely.

John 19:30
“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”

Key truth: Jesus declared the work of redemption complete on the cross — nothing more is needed.

Colossians 2:13-14
“…having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us… And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”

Key truth: Christ’s death canceled our debt of sin entirely.

Romans 5:8-9
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”

Key truth: The cross is the sole ground for our justification and salvation from wrath.

1 Peter 2:24
“…who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”

Key truth: Jesus bore our sins personally, securing both forgiveness and transformation.

Isaiah 53:5-6
“But He was wounded for our transgressions… and by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray… And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

Key truth: The cross was God’s deliberate act of placing our sin on Christ, who bore it fully.

Romans 8:1-3
“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus… For what the law could not do… God did by sending His own Son… He condemned sin in the flesh.”

Key truth: Through Christ’s cross, sin is condemned, and believers are freed from condemnation.

Ephesians 1:7
“In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”

Key truth: Redemption and forgiveness are fully provided through Christ’s shed blood.

Galatians 2:20-21
“…I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.”

Key truth: If anything else could save, Christ’s death would be meaningless — but it isn’t.
